Journal Post – Play a Game of “Fortunately, Unfortunately.”
Let’s play a game of “Fortunately, Unfortunately.” Have you heard of this one? There’s an old story that goes something like “A farmer was plowing his field and unfortunately lost his leg in the machine. Fortunately though, when the army came through looking to draft men, he wasn’t able to go. Unfortunately, though…” And so on.
Pick something going on in your life–like maybe your car’s in the shop, or your Amazon order was delayed. Try writing out a paragraph where you project into the future and make up a series of fortunately/unfortunately statements. You don’t need to be realistic; the idea is to encourage your mind to be flexible, and get you out of any habitual “woe is me” thinking.
